Fabco’s new “X” Style mounting kit allows either the StormBasin or StormSack to be installed into Open Curb Only storm drain inlets. Previously, Fabco units could only be used in drains that featured a grate and/or some type of frame support system.
The new mounting system is unique in that it uses two (2) horizontal support beams to hold the StormBasin/Sack in place behind the curb opening. This ultra strong system is designed to withstand the large volumes of water associated with open curb inlet designs while supporting the expected 300+ pounds of sediments and debris accumulating in the filter.
Simple installation
Installation inside the sub-surface vault starts with mounting four (4) support cleats on to opposite walls - 2 per side. Using a simple template to mark the proper positions the cleats hold the support beams level, parallel and positioned so that the StormBasin/Sack will sit directly behind the curb opening. Once the beams are set, an aluminum Catch plate is mounted to the
beam nearest to the curb opening. The catch plate “Catches” the runoff water entering the drain and directs it into the filter. The installation is completed by placing the StormBasin/StormSack on top and between the two beams. It’s that simple! Everything is included in the kit including the wall anchor studs.
Double or extra long curb inlet openings
The new “X” style mounting kit can be purchased as an extended version to accommodate two (2) StormBasin or StormSack units. The installation process is identical to the standard length system with the two units sitting side-by-side on two extra long support beams. (Note: each
beam is supplied in two pieces to facilitate entry into the vault through the manhole. Trim the beam to length using a chop saw/Saws-All/Jig Saw with a metal cutting blade)
Servicing/Maintenance
The StormBasin and StormSacks installed in underground vaults using the “X” style mounting kit are designed to be serviced and maintained without entering the vault – No confined space entry is required.
StormBasins and StormSacks installed in underground Open Curb vaults can be cleaned out with a vactor truck using the manhole in the vault cover. The Catch plate assembly moves the filter systems back away from the front wall to a more central position typically under the manhole opening.
StormBasin replaceable cartridges are also accessible through the manhole.
The complete StormSack including mounting flanges is designed to fit through a standard
manhole opening. To replace the filter bag use a metal hook through the manhole to lift the back edge of the StormSack frame into reach. Lift the unit off the beams and rotate so that it can be lifted length-wise through the manhole opening. Replace the bag and return the unit to the vault.
